Long Island is a beautiful, unspoiled Bahamas island that was settled by the Arawak Indians between A.D. 300 and 900. These early settlers arrived by sailing (or drifting) from the Lesser Antilles. Unfortunately, the European colonists who followed in their wake brought with them gifts of subjugation and disease, which decimated the entire native population. The island was uninhabited for 100 years after the Europeans left. Today, Long Island is a popular destination for travelers seeking a taste of authentic Bahamian culture.

The first Loyalist refugees to arrive on Long Island, Bahamas, were from Virginia, and they sought refuge there after the American Revolution. The industry became unprofitable quickly when it failed to grow cotton in an environment with little rainfall; however, their agricultural aspirations led them away from this failure towards fields of peas, corn & potatoes tended by formerly enslaved people following emancipation in 1834, which is why much land near southern tip was named ‘Columbus Point.’ By 1925 San Salvador did not yet exist but eventually came into official use as part of The Bahamas

When the Spanish arrived in “San Salvador,” it was a small settlement with little strategic value. However, over time this changed as more people settled down and started trading goods at local markets. Thanks to pirates like Arthur Longt, who would stop by often enough for them not only to hide their treasure but also eat fresh Longch from these very same waters!

The island got its name around 1926 after an Englishman named Charles Christian reportedly gave Arthur Longt 20 pounds sterling worth of jewels during one visit; since then, locals have called.

The English arrived on Long Island in 1649 and established a colony. The colony thrived thanks to the abundant resources on the island, including sugar cane and cotton. However, the colony was also home to pirates, who used the island as a base of operations.

In 1838, England abolished slavery, which led to many of the newly freed people moving to Long Island to start farming pineapple, tomatoes, and other crops. This created an export economy that flourished until the United States stopped buying produce from the Bahamas in the 1940s.

One of the most successful and well-known actors in American history, Sir Sidney Poitier, was born on Long Island near Arthur’s Town. He became only the second African American to win an Academy Award for Best Actor with his performance as Lilies of The Field (1964).

The Bahamas is a beautiful destination, with white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and sunshine. U.S. currency is accepted and interchangeable with the Bahamian dollar, making it a convenient place to visit for Americans.
